on a journey to continually inspire and educate
children of Boulder County to our Great Indian Heritage

Who We Are
Boulder Balvihar is a meeting of like-minded families who are interested in exposing their children to the Hindu philosophy and practices in a casual environment. Children learn about Hindu philosophy, religion, values, mythology and Indian culture through stories, songs, prayers, discussions and festival celebrations.

Inspired by the Chinmaya Mission, Boulder Balvihar was started by a small group led by the Mahajan family in 1992. The growing interest has resulted in about thirty families getting together on a regular basis. The Balvihar children range from preschool to high school. We meet alternate Sundays during the school year at Fireside Elementary in Louisville. Each session runs from 10:30 to 1:30 pm.

What We Do
The first hour is spent singing bhajans, learning new prayers, yoga, mediation, and special presentations by parents on related topics. For the second hour children meet in age appropriate groups to further their knowledge at their level. Finally we have aarti, followed by prashad and socialization. Classes are taught by parent volunteer teachers in a fun, informal environment.

Balvihar meetings provide opportunities for social interaction with children of the Indian community in the area. The Diwali play, festival celebrations and end-of-year picnic add extra color to the program. Balvihar families also participate in charity projects and seva opportunities within the communities of Boulder County.
